Unlike with other hair transplant methods – such as FUE and FUT (Strip) -, with Direct Hair Implantation, there is no need for reception incisions or holes on the recipient area. Hair follicles are implanted directly to the area using the patented DHI implanter tool.

With DHI Direct Hair Implantation hair follicles are implanted one by one directly to the thinning area that needs to be covered. Each hair follicle is placed in a specific direction, angle and depth, thanks to the DHI patented tool, the DHI implanter, providing 100% natural results and maximum viability. The implanted hairs continue to grow throughout a person’s lifetime and do not fall out.

The whole procedure is performed by physicians trained and certified by the Medica Hair Restoration Clinic of Turkey Istanbul, and under strict DHI quality standardisation protocols that we have set up to ensure great results every time

FUE is a method of extracting donor hair in a follicular unit hair transplant procedure. In FUE hair transplant surgery, an instrument is used to make a small, circular incision in the skin around a follicular unit, separating it from the surrounding tissue. The unit is then extracted (pulled) directly from the scalp, leaving a small open hole.

This process is repeated until the hair transplant surgeon has harvested enough follicular units for the planned hair restoration. This process can take 4-6 hours and sometimes in large sessions, may be accomplished over two consecutive days. The donor wounds, approximately 1-mm in size, completely heal over the course of seven to ten days, leaving tiny white scars buried in the hair in the back and sides of the scalp.

Before the grafts are harvested, tiny “recipient sites” are made in the balding area of the scalp using a fine needlepoint instrument. The follicular units are then placed into the recipient sites where they will grow into healthy hair-producing follicles.

Follicular Unit Extraction is an instrument dependent procedure; therefore, the type of tool used for this procedure significantly affects its outcome. In fact, the development of increasingly better extraction instruments has closely paralleled advances in the procedure.

Possibly the most straightforward application of this technique is to camouflage a linear donor scar from a prior hair transplant procedure. In this technique, a small amount of hair is extracted from the area around a linear donor scar and then placed directly into it.

Do You Need Revision Hair Transplant Surgery for an Old Procedure?

Modern hair transplant surgery has come a long way since the days of the now infamous “hair plug” procedures. Modern hair restoration procedures, like follicular unit extraction (FUE) and direct hair transplantation (DHI), can create natural-looking hairlines and effectively fill in bald spots for long-lasting results that will leave you satisfied with your hair for years to come.

With advancements in modern hair transplant surgery comes the ability for revision hair transplant to correct mistakes from past procedures. Medica Hair Restoration Clinic is an expert in revision hair transplant and can work with your concerns to create natural looking, full-bodied hair.

Who is a Candidate for Revision Hair Transplant?

Revision hair transplant can rectify a number of issues from past procedures.

Older procedures weren’t capable of removing individual follicular units, instead relying on removing and transplanting small groupings of hairs. This led to large gaps between the transplanted groupings and a look that only got worse as further hair loss made the plugs more apparent. If you had hair restoration surgery some years ago and are not happy by the unnatural look of an outdated procedure, modern techniques can smooth out your hairline. Our expertise can also fix mistakes from past procedures, including unnatural looking hairlines or a noticeable amount of density in the transplant zones that doesn’t match the surrounding area.

If you have noticeable scarring from past hair transplant procedures, particularly a FUT procedure, then revision hair transplant can help minimize the scarring. Healthy follicular units are typically harvested from the backs and sides of the scalp, leaving some patients with large bald spots. Ideally, the donor sites are easily covered with surrounding hair, but if done incorrectly, you may be left with scarring that just can’t be covered up. Revision hair transplant can be used to cover up scars to great effect.

Are Multiple Hair Transplant Surgeries Necessary?

If you’ve already had hair transplant surgery or are considering receiving treatment, you may wonder about the longevity of the results. Fortunately, newly-transplanted follicular units will continue growing hair long after transplantation. While hair transplantation surgery can greatly enhance your appearance, it does not cure hair loss. Decades after receiving your first surgery you may notice that your hair no longer looks as good as it did. If that is the case, a second hair restoration surgery is an option for most people and can revitalize your thinning hair. If you’ve previously received hair transplant surgery but are not satisfied with the results or your hair has noticeably thinned and you’re considering another procedure, schedule a consultation with Medica Hair Restoration Clinic.
